One of the really common questions we are asked, as a tie designer and retailer, is 'where do / how do I wear a tie-bar / tie-clip?
Tie-bars and tie-clips can really look great if worn correctly, but a badly worn tie-bar or tie-clip will have quite the opposite effect and completely ruin the look of your tie.
Three important points to remember....
- Clip it to your shirt: The first thing to remember is that the tie bar is intended to keep the tie in place, and it does so by grasping.
- Tie Clip Positioning: the Position of the tie bar is crucial and should be a couple inches or centimeters above your jacket’s closing button.
- Tie Clip Width: The width of the tie clip should always be shorter than the width of the tie, preferably about 70 – 80% of the width.
As long as these fundamentals are followed, you really can't go too far wrong.
